I was born in Dallas and grew up in the Dallas suburbs. I graduated from Texas Tech University in 1975 with a BBA in Accounting and moved back to Dallas to start my career. A former boss of mine asked me to move to Houston for a job in 1980 and I have been in Houston ever since.
My husband Albert Carpio and I became a couple in 1990 and celebrated our 27th anniversary this July. We married in October 2015, have a 14 year old Bichon Frise and have lived in The Heights for the past 15 years.
I worked at AIG for a bit over 36 years. My educational background is in Accounting and I am a CPA. For the first 14 years, I worked in accounting and auditing jobs. For the next 6 years, I worked in general management and project management jobs. For the last 16 years, I worked in various procurement-related jobs. I retired in March 2016.
We strongly believe in the HRC mission of equality and the need to fully eliminate discrimination against the LGBTQIA+ community. We know we have been very lucky in our lives and want to share some of our success with younger members of our community and people who have not had the good fortune that we have been able to achieve. Hence the genesis of our work with HRC. My recent retirement allowed me to step up my involvement with HRC and other groups.
I have been working with HRC on the Houston gala for the past 6 years. Over that time, I worked mainly with Silent Auction and Corporate Sponsorships. Additionally, my husband and I have been table captains for many years, selling 1-3 tables per year. As all of you know, I was a gala chair in 2017 and am working in that role for 2018 as well.
My husband and I are major donors, and I have been working as a member of the major donor committee for the past year.
