First, you must complete all parts of the scholarship application, including an essay. The application is found here.
After an initial application screening, selected students are invited to personal interviews, which are usually held on a Saturday in April. The interviews are held at the University of Houston – Downtown with a committee of screeners. An interview is required to be awarded a scholarship. After the interviews, the organization determines who will be awarded a scholarship. The scholarship presentation is traditionally held in May.
The number and amount of scholarships varies each year.
In the 2016-17 scholarship awards presentation, 30 students were presented with scholarships. The amount of the scholarships totaled $100,000.
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must be a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender youth between ages 17-25 who graduated from a Houston-area high school or is (will be) attending an accredited college or university in the Houston area. The Houston area includes the following counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, & Waller counties.
Current college students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 (of 4.0) to be eligible for scholarships.
