    What is the process for applying for the scholarship?2017-10-13T20:09:44-05:00

    First, you must complete all parts of the scholarship application, including an essay. The application is found here.

    To qualify for the initial selection process the student must submit the following by the February 28, 2023 deadline:

    • A completed application;
    • A current official transcript in a sealed envelope;[1]
    • An essay;
    • A resume; and
    • One letter of reference (emailed as a scanned copy directly to OFE by your reference)

    OFE will judge each applicant’s completed application, overall achievements, and financial need. The selection committee will then make preliminary selections for finalists who will be invited to an interview. These finalists will be interviewed individually by a panel of community members on a weekend in March (dates TBD).

    Scholarship awards will be determined by funds available at the time they are granted. During the last several years, OFE has recognized and granted outstanding LGBTQIA+ students multiple scholarships ranging from $1,000 over one year to $10,000 over four years.


    Who is eligible for scholarships?2017-10-13T20:08:42-05:00

    In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must meet the following qualifications:

    • Identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
    • Attending or has attended a Houston-area (which includes Harris or a contiguous county) high school, college, or trade school.
    • Have a GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.0 GPA from current or last school attended.
